  • He was born on 22na of December 1887 in a small village of Tanjore district, Madras. He failed in English in Intermediate, so his formal studies were stopped but his self-study of mathematics continued.
  • He sent a set of 120 theorems to Professor Hardy of Cambridge. As a result he invited Ramanujan to England.
  • Ramanujan showed that any big number can be written as sum of not more than four prime numbers.
  • He showed that how to divide the number into two or more squares or cubes.
  • when Mr Litlewood came to see Ramanujan in taxi number 1729, Ramanujan said that 1729 is the smallest number which can be written in the form of sum of cubes of two numbers in two ways, i.e. 1729 = 93 + 103 = 13 + 123 since then the number 1729 is called Ramanujan’s number.
  • In the third century B.C, Archimedes noted that the ratio of circumference of a circle to its diameter is constant. The ratio is now called ‘pi ( Π )’ (the 16th letter in the Greek alphabet series)
  • The largest numbers the Greeks and the Romans used were 106 whereas Hindus used numbers as big as 1053 with specific names as early as 5000 B.C. during the Vedic period.

Olympics

Olympics is an international multi sport event which is divided into summer and winter sporting events. But the summer and winter games are held in every four years. The program of Olympic sports are generally consists of 53 disciplines, 35 different sports and more than 400 events.
Winter Olympic games are basically included only 7 sports with 15 disciplines as well as the summer Olympic sports are include 28 sports with 38 disciplines. The flag of Olympic games has divided into five different interlocking rings on a white ground that is black, blue, green, yellow and red. These five colors of the interlocking rings are represent the five parts of the world that were joined together in the Olympic movement. The five parts of the world are Asia, Australia, Africa, America and Europe.
The flag of Olympic game was first used in the 1920 Olympic games in Antwerp, Belgium. The symbols of the Olympic games are the icons, flags and symbols which are used by the international Olympic committee to permute the Olympic movement. Some such as the flame, fanfare and theme are the prevalent during the Olympic competition. But the others such as a flag can be seen through out the year.
Numbers of organizations are involved in the Olympic games. Three groups of organizations are operate on a specialized area. All of these three groups are mentioned below:
First one is International Federations which is governing the bodies of a sport. Second one is National Olympic committees, are regulate the Olympic movement within each country and the third one is organizing committees for the Olympic games.

Hockey Types

There are several forms of hockey including ice hockey, field hockey, indoor hockey, and roller hockey.  All forms are played recreationally, but ice hockey is a popular professional sport as well, most notably in Canada.

Ice Hockey

Ice hockey is an Olympic sport and team game with six players on a side, including three forwards, two defenders, and one goalie.  It is played with sticks and a rubber puck on a rectangular sheet of ice called a rink.  A regulation rink is 200 feet long and 85-100 feet wide, and divided in half by a red line, and into thirds by blue lines forming two end zones and one neutral zone.  The game of ice hockey is governed by various rules including NHL (National Hockey League), USA Hockey, and NCAA. Although it is assumed that games of hockey have been played in some form around the world for 4,000 years, the historical roots of ice hockey are Canadian.  The game took off in Montreal during the winter of 1879, when W.F. Robertson, an avid skater, sought to find a way to play the game of field hockey on ice.  The first games were played nine to a side, using a square rubber puck.  The first team, known as the McGill University Hockey Club, was formed in 1880, and the game was later introduced in Ottawa.
Play is started by a "face-off," during which the referee drops the puck between the sticks of the opposing centers in the middle of the rink.  The other players must remain at least 10 feet away from the center players during the face-off.  There are also eight other marked spots on the rink where face-offs take place if play is stopped during the game.  The puck remains in play until it is hit across the goal line or the whistle is blown on an infringement.  When a goal has been scored, a red light behind the goal is switched on.
The puck may be stopped by a player's stick, hand, body, or skate, but the puck cannot be held for more than 3 seconds.  "Stick-handling" refers to using the stick to maneuver the puck.  Infringements such as charging, tripping, or body-checking are penalized by sending the offending player off the ice and into a special penalty box for two or more minutes.  Fighting is penalized by five minutes off the ice, and deliberate injury is penalized by ten.
ice

Field Hockey

Field hockey is a form of hockey played in over 70 countries with teams of 11-a-side, although some teams play with 5, 6, or 7-a-side.  Teams include a goalie, two backs, three halves, and five forwards.  It is usually played on a grass field 100 yards long and between 55-60 yards wide.  The normal game duration is 70 minutes, with two periods of 35 minutes each.  The object of the game is to use the sticks to hit, push, flick, or scoop the ball into the opponent's goal.  Opponents attempt to intercept the ball. playing
field hockey The goal is constructed of two posts 4 yards apart joined by a horizontal crossbar that is 7 feet off the ground.  Netting contains the balls that have been shot past the goalie.  The ball, which is made of solid plastic, has a circumference of 9.25 inches and weighs 5.5 to 5.75 ounces.  Field hockey players wear shirts, boots without spikes, and shorts or a skirt.  The goalkeeper wears a face guard, gloves, headgear, and knee and elbow pads.

Indoor Hockey

Indoor hockey is similar to field hockey, but adapted for indoor play.  However, the manner of play can also be utilized outdoors as well, on a flat, hard surface such as asphalt.  A regulation playing area is between 40-50 yards long and 20-25 yards wide.  There are two teams comprised of six players each, and the game is usually divided into two periods of 20 minutes each. Indoor hockey rules are set forth by the International Hockey Federation which states that the ball must only be pushed and not hit with the stick.  The ball may only rise off the ground when attempting to score a goal from the striking circle (a delineated area in front of the goal).  The game is started by a lateral pass from the team losing a toss-up.

Roller Hockey

inline
hockey player and equipment Roller hockey may be played on roller skates, or more commonly, roller blades.  This variety is referred to as inline roller hockey.  It is played with two teams of 6 players, and closely resembles ice hockey, though played on asphalt or an indoor skating rink with a ball.  The rink or playing area must be a minimum size of 65 x 35 feet and a maximum size of 100 x 200 feet, surrounded by a barrier.

The electronic exchange of stock market information has made investing in stock markets comfortable.

The share market information is helpful to those people who want to invest in the share market. Previously, it was the brokers who were in hold of the entire share market information and hence the sharing of such info was limited. Now share investors may go through the website or news channels to get acquainted with the share market rises and falls.

Share Market Information Types
The share market information mainly consists of information on stock market quotes made by various companies, share prices, price of the stocks, bond prices, interest rates, price rates and profits and losses made by listed companies. India captain Dhoni 'rages against the machine'

BANGALORE, India — India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni hit out at the controversial Umpire Decision Review System (URDS) after a key decision went against his side in their dramatic World Cup tie with England.
England, replying to India's 338 all out after Sachin Tendulkar's record-breaking fifth hundred in World Cup cricket, finished on 338 for eight following a magnificent career-best 158 from captain Andrew Strauss.
Left-handed opener Strauss shared a vital third-wicket partnership of 170 with Ian Bell (69).
But their stand was worth just 52 when left-arm spinner Yuvraj Singh thought he had Bell lbw on review for 17, with replays showing the ball would have hit the stumps.
Bell had started to walk off but because New Zealand umpire Billy Bowden's verdict was not out, the decision was returned to him by Australian replay official Rod Tucker and the Kiwi deemed Bell to be too far down the pitch.
However, a capacity crowd of mainly passionate India fans were left bemused having seen Bell 'dismissed' on the Chinnaswamy Stadium's giant replay screens.
Bell himself clearly thought he was out, walking off the pitch before his clearly unexpected reprieve and Dhoni too couldn't understand why he was allowed to continue his innings.
India have stood alone amongst major nations in refusing to use UDRS in Tests after getting on the wrong side of the system during a series away to Sri Lanka in 2008 where several reviews went against them.
"The adulteration of technology with human thinking meant we didn't get that (Bell) wicket," said Dhoni.
He was unhappy with the instruction to umpires at this World Cup that says if a batsman is more than 2.5 metres down the pitch he should be given not out, unless the ball would have hit middle stump.
It was not certain if Bell's middle stump would have been knocked over but Dhoni said: "If Hawkeye says it's good and going to hit middle stump, I see no reason why the distance matters.
"Simon (Taufel) once gave me out (like that) in the Champions Trophy. If I can be given out, why not any other batsman? It is pretty difficult for me, what I saw was ball hitting the stumps."
Dhoni praised left-arm quick Zaheer Khan for a burst of three wickets for one run in six balls, including two in two to get rid of Bell and Strauss, that swung the match back India's way when England were on course for victory.
"Well you know the way they were going, I think they got off to a very good start, I think Andrew (Strauss) batted really well. There was a time I think where it seemed they were going to chase the score in 48, 49 overs," he said.
He added: "We could not win the match, but England too could not finish the game, both teams were facing defeat or victory at some point."
England needed 14 off the last over, from seamer Munaf Patel, but managed just 13 despite a third ball six from tailender Ajmal Shahzad.
But Dhoni said it was India's fielding, long their Achilles heel, that had cost them a second victory of this tournament to set alongside their 87-run opening win over fellow co-hosts Bangladesh.
"We could have fielded better. With this tie, everyone in the team will realise that even one run is important," said the captain.

'Lavasa probe will bring down the Maharashtra govt'

Phadnavis said on July 14, 2007, Deshmukh along with two senior NCP leader visited Lavasa to clear the project.
"This decision was not taken in the Mantralaya (seat of the Maharashtra government) or in a cabinet meeting, this was taken in Lavasa itself. In all other cases, it is the people who approach the government for clearances but here the government went to Lavasa, called senior urban development department officials and had the Lavasa project cleared," said Phadnavis.

He claimed in the House that a number of officials from several government departments such as forest, environment, local self-government had opposed the project at every step.

Replying on the debate, Revenue Minister Balasaheb Thorat said, "Nothing has been done by violating the law. There are few irregularities that we will regularise in accordance with the law."
Lavasa project is being developed by HCC owned by Ajit Gulabchand , who has been known to be a close friend of NCP chief Sharad Pawar ].

HCC is the same company, which constructed Bandra-Worli sea link

One Ravindra Bharate, a Right to Information activist, obtained the contentious documents of Lavasa. Bharate took three years to collect all the documents from various government agencies.

"This is the biggest land scam in the history of the independent India , prime land worth thousands of crores has been gifted to Lavasa at the behest of politicians for a pittance," said Barhate.

TAKE ME AWAY

For once I don't want a steaming cup of coffee
and hear the clomp clomp of my boss' high heels
for once in my life I want to be taken away
to the rivers and mountains on my four wheels
where the birds chirp all day long
and the whole place is carpeted with green
where fresh milk and curd comes from the cows
and no technology can be heard or seen
just the clouds, the river, the mountains and the sun
and at night beneath the countless stars I shall sleep
in the morning the sun will kiss my face
I will belong to a place where no one but silence speaks
so take me away to the mountains today
for inside these four walls I can no longer stay

NATURE

I watch the waves crash in, breaking on the shore
All their anger dispensed on the oceans floor
I look at the sky so blue, sun shining so bright
Spreading heat and happiness with its blinding light
Long blades of grass swaying in the gentle breeze
Dancing in rhythm with so much ease
Look up at the trees hearing the singing of the birds
Happily chirping singing at ease without words
Sitting here holding my knees to my chest
Watching and hearing nature at it s best
I ponder how Nature could get it so right
When we have let Natures lessons get so out of sight
We hold our anger, let our happiness slip away
Making our survival a struggle each and every day
We have forgotten the little things that mean so much
Like the laughter, the freedom, and someone’s loving touch
If only I could make people stop, watch and listen to Natures tale
We could all sit back happily and our world would not be so frail
In each others existence in harmony we could all survive
I’m sure like the sun, wind, tree, and birds our lives we could revive
If only we let nature take its course in each and every one of us each day and night
As I sit and ponder how Nature got it so right and we lost all sight.

SPring

Spring is a miraculous experience. The whole world comes alive after the winter in which it seemed that everything was dead. The world comes filled with color and the scent of delicious greenery. The world that seemed so dull and cold has come alive once again. Little did we know that beneath the cold hard ground the plants and trees were preparing for rebirth. Spring gives us hope for rejuvenation in our own lives as well. Spring is a time to renew the excitement and zest for life that lives inside.

SUMMER

Summer is the stuff of dreams. When adults sit at their desks, and children sit in school, they dream of summer. Summer is the time of infinite fun. The day seems to last forever, and the fun never stops. It is a time of romance, excitement and an enhanced enjoyment of life. Somehow summer never seems to last long enough. It is always over before we get a chance to fully experience its power. This is true of all things wonderful. They always seem too short.

Hope Behind The Shadows Of Pain

In some others pretty eyes
There's a great painful disguise
Disguise that dressed their lonely heart
With devastating cuts that ever hurt.

Their smiles turned into sobs
Their laughter turned into screams
Their days turned into nights
And their joys turned into sorrows.

But no matter what caused their pains
They move forward as they wipe their tears
For in every beat of a lonely heart
There is hope that lights the path.

FAITH

To have faith is to defy logic. It takes faith to think positively. It takes faith to believe that there is a loving G-d who cares deeply about our pain. To believe in life, the universe, or yourself after numerous failures is to have courage. Faith is an act of courage. It is choosing to get up in the morning and face our fears and believe that G-d will help us. Faith is choosing to believe that even though we may have failed one hundred times before that we can succeed the next time.

INSPIRATIONAL POEM

Life is a lot of work. What is it that gives us the strength to continue when we are tired and burned out? Sometimes an inspirational idea can help us renew ourselves and be filled with strength to fulfill our life's purpose. Inspiration comes in many forms. However, the root of all inspiration is the idea that our lives are meaningful. Inspiration is knowing that what I do matters deeply to the universe. When you have the feeling that your actions are meaningful, you will become filled with strength and vigor to fulfill your life's purpose.

Forever Friends

True friends are hard to find,
but there you are you came into my life.
You came to me in a perfect time,
I'm so happy you're a friend of mine.

We've been together for so long,
in a fantastic place where we belong.
We shared the mysteries of our life,
laughter and tears are seen in our eyes.

You're with me and I'm with you,
you comfort me and I LOVE YOU.
A part of me becomes part of you,
true friendship I've found in you.

Now it's time to say goodbye,
tears of sadness keeps falling in my eyes.
So, please don't cry my darling friend,
Coz our friendship will never end.

Yes it's true we'll be apart,
Coz I'm here and you there.
With you my friend I want to tell,
whatever happens we'll be FRIENDS FOREVER!

friends forever

Forever is a very long time. How is it that people can talk so casually about a concept that we cannot even wrap our minds around? Sometimes we have a friend and we sense that our souls are very closely connected. We know that the connection is above time and space. We know that wherever we are in our lives we will always remain friends. Even if we do not see each other for years we are able to pick up right where we left off. This is what people mean when they say friends forever.
